What to Expect in Paris This October 2021

September 17, 2021
2021-09-17
It's no secret that Paris has gone through a lot these past few years. From the Covid-19 pandemic to political protests left and right, it's almost as if the French capital is exhausted. Fortunately, since France has reopened and is slowly getting things back to normal, Paris is also going back to its former glory. In fact, this coming October 2021 alone, there are a lot to look forward to. Almost as if the pandemic never happened, the French capital is hosting a ton of events left and right. Here are some you might want to go to if you're here by then!

What to Expect in Paris This October 2021

Serge Gainsbourg Museum Opening (October 2021)

Serge Gainsbourg was the most prolific artist in French pop music history. He was an important figure throughout the 20th-century, akin to the likes of The Beatles in the UK and Elvis Presley from the USA. Although he passed on back in 1991, his influence in French pop music and his legacy as one of the pioneers of artistic expression in France remains ever-present. So much so that his former residence at 5 bis Rue de Verneuil in the 6th arrondissement of Paris will soon open as a museum in his honor this October 2021. Although no specific date within the month has been announced, rest assured that the event will serve as another historic moment in Serge Gainsbourg's legacy.

Nuit Blanche - Sleepless Night (October 2 - 3)

Before the Covid-19 pandemic happened, Paris used to host Nuit Blanche, or the 'Sleepless Night,' every first Saturday night of October. It's an all-night festival of lights where both established and up-and-coming French artists show the city what they're made of. And yes, just as mentioned, a lot of lights are involved. From bright works of modern art in exhibition spaces like the Grand Palais to the twinkling lights of the French capital, this festival brightens up the city that rarely goes dark anyways. Fortunately, since France has reopened after (hopefully) the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic has happened, Nuit Blanche will return this October 2 to 3, 2021, to enchant Parisians yet again.

Paris Fashion Week (Ends on October 6)

Although Paris Fashion Week for womenswear spring 2022 started in September 2021, the event will reach its conclusion this October. Specifically on October 6, 2021. And don't think that just because there are only six days left for the event next month, that they're not worth paying attention to. On the contrary, a lot of prominent French designers will show throughout these dates. The likes of Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga, as well as haute couture houses like Chanel and Givenchy, will all show their latest ready-to-wear collections from October 1 to 6, 2021. Although these are exclusive invite-only events, you can still stream them online instead!

Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre - Wine Harvest Festival in Montmartre (October 6 - 10)

If there's one district in Paris you have to visit this October 2021, it's Montmartre! This year marks the return of 'Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre,' or the Wine Harvest Festival in Montmartre. Set on October 6 to 10, 2021, it's one of the biggest annual events in the city. This year, because of the recent pandemic, its events are honed to encourage social-distancing and sanitary practices. Nevertheless, the usual favorites like the parade of folk dances and music and, of course, the wine-tasting, will still pus through. If you want to test the finest reds and the best white wines in the city, you ought not to miss this festival!

Paris Marathon 2021 (October 17)

Perhaps one of the most iconic events to look forward to in Paris this October 2021: the return of the famous Paris Marathon! Although it was usually held every April, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year's edition was pushed back to start on October 17, 2021. Nevertheless, the fact that it will return after last year's cancellation is yet another huge sign that things are finally going back to normal in the French capital. Set to welcome 65,000 runners and counting, the marathon will start at Champs-Élysées and will go through many other iconic landmarks in Paris.

Halloween at Disneyland Paris (Ends on October 31)

Of course, October always means it's time for Halloween. And what better place to celebrate it than in Disneyland Paris? Having reopened back in June 2021, The theme park's Halloween celebration looks to be its first comeback annual event after the Covid-19 pandemic. Actually, Halloween in Disneyland Paris starts in late September, with the famous villains from your favorite Disney films start to wreak havoc all over the park. They take over the nightly parades and replace the heroes and princesses for meet-and-greets. Furthermore, various rides adopt a more Halloween-esque theme in celebration of the holiday.

On the day itself, October 31, 2021, this iconic movie theater will show all the popular horror flicks you grew up watching. From the classics like The Shining to The Exorcist to more recent favorites like The Ring and The Conjuring, you'll get to relive the glorious gore and horror on this very day. Are you ready for it?
