Perhaps one of the main reasons why many people think this is the perfect place to live out a Parisian lifestyle is because homes here are more or less affordable. Sure, it still has its fair share of luxury apartments, but most of the places you could rent here won't require you to shell out a ton of money every month. As the film "Moulin Rouge!" already depicted, Montmartre's history is quite a colorful one, to say the least. The center of bohemian at the time, you can still see relics of that exciting yet tumultuous past. These cobblestone streets that you walk on every day are the same streets that revolutionaries, philosophers, and more walked on. And while that may not affect your normal life, that's still quite an impact in itself. You'll also see that many 1920s hotspots, those frequented by the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Salvador Dali, and Ernst Hemingway, are still open for business. They're the perfect historic places to go to on weekends with friends!

You might imagine Montmartre as this loud and bustling place in Paris. And for the most part, it is! But that doesn't mean the people here are unfriendly! Far from it! You can expect that most who live here are pleasant people, will great you as they pass you by, and you might even form long-lasting friendships with your neighbors. The communal spirit has long been one of the defining characteristics of Montmartre, arguably even beyond its bohemian past and nightlife identity. Coffee shops are a dime a dozen in this district, with one set up in practically every corner. From established hotspots to unique startups, you'll find no scarcity of cafés here! Café des Deux Moulins is a particular highlight, having been around for decades now. it's one of those 1920s places which saw historic writers and artists congregate and discuss ideas in. The Hardware Societé, on the other hand, is a brunch place you'll have to try at least once in your life here!

Despite being a diverse city that's open to all faiths and beliefs, Paris is largely a Roman Catholic-dominated city. After all, it does house one of the most famous churches in the world, Notre Dame. However, even here in Montmartre, the Sacré-Coeur, that shining basilica right on top of Montmartre hill, makes the district another haven for practicing Roman Catholics. It helps that the iconic church also hears masses in English, so foreign residents can still go her every Sunday for worship. Meanwhile, other churches like Paroisse Saint-Pierre de Montmartre and Paroisse Saint-Jean de Montmartre also provide perfect places for worship.

Shopping in Paris doesn't always have to mean luxury. Sure, French designer clothes are worth spending money on, but if you can't afford it, what are you gonna do? Shop in Montmartre, of course. If you lived in this area, you can still have a wardrobe full of Paris style staples without shelling out a ton of money. How so? Because of the flea markets! There's one every weekend—at times, even weekends too!—and you can shop till you drop it won't affect your bank account all that much. Who knows?
