What do you really know about Singapore? That's the tiger city of Southeast Asia? That it's the mecca of wealth and luxury in this corner of the globe? That it's a major business and financial hub where the East meets the West? All of these things do ring true about Singapore, but to really get to know this thriving city, you have to be familiar with its neighborhoods. Each one holds a key into the true identity of the city, the influences that make up its rich culture, and the diversity that makes the country so unique.

Bugis

Firstly, there's Bugis. If you ever heard that Singapore is a very colorful city, that's probably because of Bugis. This is a lively district that houses many shops, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and the like. It's an artistic town that presents the very best of the creativity of Singaporeans, from the fabulous clothes and beautiful knick=knacks they offer to the delectable dishes they serve here. If you're an artist or the creative type, this is most likely the neighborhood that you'll be drawn to the most.

Chinatown

It's no secret that every major city has its own Chinatown, and here in Singapore, it's no different! In fact, since the Chinese make up a huge chunk of the Singaporean population, this city's Chinatown is one of the most thriving in the world. It's as authentic a slice of China as one such town can be, filled with shops, boutiques, and temples representative of the culture. And like those in other cities, this is a foodie's district. Your tummy will always be full and happy here!

Colonial District

Arguably the most beautiful neighborhood in the city, the Colonial District of Singapore ties the past to the present. The country used to be a British colony and this part of the town reflects that with its old-school Western-style architecture. Lining the banks of the Singaporean River, it's a majestic sight to behold—one of the most aesthetically pleasing out of all the city's areas. Also, it's another lively part of town filled with museums, galleries, shops, restaurants, and more.

Financial District

A great contrast from the Colonial District is definitely the Financial District, one of the more urbanized parts of the city. This is where you see the high-rise buildings and skyscrapers, making it seem like you're in New York or something. And in fact, the feeling is similar too. This part of town is one of the busiest, with big businesses and big banks setting up shop here. If you moved to Singapore for work, your office will most likely be in this area too.

Kampong Glam

It's a different type of glamour that you will see in Kampong Glam. Yes, this is a colorful and beautiful part of town, but it's also the center of the Muslim in the city. So as glamorous as it may seem around here, it's also a very solemn district, particularly during Islamic holidays when most of the citizens are deep in prayer. However, don't expect this to be the most peaceful neighborhood neither. The streets are lined with shops, markets, and the like, giving off that bustling vibe.

Little India

Now, if you really want to go to or even live in the most colorful neighborhood in Singapore, look no further than Little India. With the Indian influence splattered everywhere in this part of the city, you'd really think you were actually in the South Asian country. Think brightly-painted houses lined up together, some with shops and restaurants that offer and serve the very best. Think beautiful kiosks selling all sorts of Indian items you can't wait to take home! That's the picture of Singapore's Little India.

Marina Bay

You've probably heard of Marina Bay, right? The famous Gardens by The Bay that you've seen featured in movies? The lit-up skyline? The amazing lazer show? Well, they're all there in this part of the city. It's a very high-class area where you'll find luxury condos by the dozen, malls packed with the most famous brands, culinary hotspots with serving fine cuisines, and the like. If you have a lot of money to spare and the sky's the limit with your budget, here is where you'd want to spend it all!

Orchard Road

Another famously upscale district is Orchard Road. This is the part of the city where business meets pleasure—a whole plethora of office buildings and luxury malls to keep everyone busy and bustling. On the streets, you'll find more people rushing off to work while the tourists stroll inside the big malls and shopping centers. It's also where a lot of high-class condos are located, making it a slightly homely area as well. When you're just visiting Singapore, this area is a must-see!

Robertson Quay

While Marina Bay and Orchard Road are more known as high-class areas, Roberson Quay is more for the middle class. But this isn't to say you won't find its fair share of swanky establishments and upscale hotspots. This place is, after all, the center of the nightlife of the city. During the day, you might find a lot more families hanging out in the parks and strolling the streets, but at night, it's partying all the way until the wee hours of early morning the next day! Quite a juxtaposition of a neighborhood in Singapore!

Sentosa Island

Finally, there's Sentosa Island, which is technically a resort in of itself but the rise of high-end condos and hotels nearby has made it quite the livable neighborhood. This is where you'd want to get wet in Singapore, whether it's at the beach with the crystal waters and white sands or the amazing waterparks with big slides and even bigger sprinklers. It's all about family fun here, an awesome hotspot of a district where you spend the weekend for some fun with loved ones.

If you think Singapore is a boring city to stay or live in, think again! There aren't a lot of cities with a collection of neighborhoods as diverse as this one. It's an amalgamation of culture, class, and a lot of fun for everyone!

If you do plan to live in any of these great neighborhoods, be sure to choose a luxurious Singaporean rental as your new home. It's the only type of place to really live the life here!
