The best places to shop the January sales in London

December 12, 2021
2021-12-12
January sales in London aren’t really January sales anymore, with most of them starting right after Christmas these days, some even just before. So we’ve put together a list of the best places to shop to make sure you don’t miss out on any bargains after Christmas. Whether you want home interiors, clothes or just fancy having a browse, there’s a sale to suit every budget. You could even start shopping for next Christmas! Stockpiling advent calendars anyone?

Liberty

Liberty has to be our favourite shop in London. It’s a warren of beautiful things in a stunning Tudor building just off Regent Street. Look out for emerging designers, antiques and everything in between. Their sale starts on Boxing Day so get there early to get your pick of the best stuff. We love stocking up on Christmas cards and little gifts for the following Christmas as well as crackers and table settings.

Selfridges

There seems to be nothing that Selfridges doesn’t sell. This huge department store at the western end of Oxford Street is famous for its fashion but you’ll also find stationary, food, beauty, accessories and luggage. Shop online to avoid the crowds or head to the store and pick out all sorts of gorgeous finds. You’ll also often find special installations and pop ups in-store, making it so much more than a regular shopping experience.

John Lewis

After the annual fever around the John Lewis Christmas ad, you would think they quieten down in the new year. But no, it’s straight from Christmas and on to the sale. The Oxford Street flagship store is the place to go for kitchenware, home accessories and clothes from reputable high street brands like Whistles and Phase Eight. John Lewis also released a new womenswear line last season called WEEKEND which is sure to be on sale.

Next

The Next sale is infamous. Mainly for the crowds that gather outside the store when it opens at the crack of dawn on Boxing Day, eager to get their hands on clothes and homeware with 50% off. 90% off their stock goes on sale and mum’s especially will love picking up clothes for babies and kids at a fraction of their usual price. Be prepared to push and shove and maybe even queue up outside, but it’s worth it. Elbows at the ready.

Harrods

From designer dog clothes to diamonds and specialty perfumes to a leg of lamb, you’ll always find what you need in Harrods. Their preview sale will start on the 20th of December but the real thing doesn’t start until the 27th. This is when you’ll be able to seek out some of life’s little luxuries for a fraction of the price.

Harvey Nichols

Harvey Nichols is a treasure trove of fashionable finds for anyone who loves shopping. And their sales are famous. Starting on the 26th of December you’ll be able to find designer bargains from all ends of the spectrum from Acne to Prada. They also sell online if you can’t face the crowds, but we think it’s half the fun.

Fortnum & Mason

Fortnum & Mason on Piccadilly is a London institution and shopping here place can feel like you’re stepping back in time. Their Christmas hampers are one of their most famous offerings and lots of them don’t contain perishables so you could even buy them on sale for next year’s gifts. You’ll also find lots of other gorgeous gift ideas like specialty tea and condiments. Once you’re done shopping the sale, go for high tea in the tea salon.

Heal’s

There are three Heal’s stores in London, with Tottenham Court Road being the flagship. This gorgeous shop is a pleasure to wonder round, with it’s huge spiral staircase acting as a centrepiece. You’ll find everything you could ever need to make your house into a stylish home from furnishings and lighting to carpets and curtains. Their Christmas decorations are some of the most elegant we’ve found so stock up on half-price baubles and stow them away for next year.

Westfield London

The largest inner-city shopping centre in Europe is located in West London in Shepherd’s Bush. Here you’ll find every shop you can think of, from high street chains like Topshop and Primark to high-end stores like Celine and Chanel. Expect Westfield to be extremely busy over Christmas and New Year, especially when the sales start on the 26th of December. But luckily, there plenty of restaurants and cafes for you to hide it when it all gets a bit much. There is also another Westfield at the eastern end of the central line at Stratford. Spoilt for choice!
