The Top Spring/Summer 2022 Menswear Collections from Paris Fashion Week

Comme des Garcons Homme Plus

'Florals for spring? Groundbreaking!' Well, hate to break it to you, Miranda Priestly, but this spring/summer 2022, it is! And you have the legendary Rei Kawakubo to thank for that! For her spring/summer 2022 Comme des Garcons Homme Plus collection, she decked out her gentlemen in all sorts of floral prints. Juxtaposed with her signature strict yet deconstructed tailoring, the line teeters between traditional masculinity and gender fluidity. Who'd ever thought that floral skirts on men would look good? Now that's truly groundbreaking!

Courreges

The French designer brand Courrèges continues its love affair with leather, vinyl, rubber, and more with its spring/summer 2022 menswear collection. Newly-minted creative director Nicolas di Felice presented his first men's line for the label during Paris Fashion Week. It was a parade of minimalist streamlined looks made out of the most interesting materials. Think of a well-cut black leather coat with a noticeable flair that gives a rather regal shape. Or nylon anoraks that give a sporty yet sophisticated vibe. It's pretty clear that Courrèges aims to look timeless yet edgy for this spring/summer season.

Dries Van Noten

Belgian designer Dries Van Noten has always been a stand-out during Paris Fashion Week, be it for menswear or womenswear. This time around, for his spring/summer 2022 collection, he aimed to blur the lines between the two. With his slew of oversized and exaggerated silhouettes, you can hardly tell if one piece is for men or for women. Some looks had men downright wearing skirts too! As one of the most respected minds in fashion, known for his takes on classic staples and old-school elegance, this new approach is nothing short of mindblowing!

Dior Men

Leave it to Kim Jones to collaborate with rapper Travis Scott for his latest menswear collection. As one of the leading French designer menswear labels out there, it's only natural that Dior Men captures the zeitgeist of the time. And for spring/summer 2022, did it ever! Scott's influence over the collection goes beyond his own famous rebellious style. Incorporated with Dior's signature elegant aesthetic and high-quality craftsmanship, the line amped up many of hip-hop's and the African-American community's enduring influence on fashion. Think snazzy suits, upgraded casual wear, and the like!

Junya Watanabe

A simple tee, a straw hat, sunglasses, and a pair of sandals. These are what appeared on practically every single look of Junya Watanabe's spring/summer 2022 collection. Though a major staple in the Paris fashion scene, this marks the third season that the Japanese designer is showing in Tokyo rather than the French capital. And it seems that he's become more influenced by his home country at the moment. Though the collection touches on various current trends—androgyny, maximalist prints, oversized shapes—the sheer simplicity of it all is what will likely captivate men to dress exactly like Junya Watanabe's lookbook!

Loewe

This spring/summer 2022, JW Anderson takes on rave culture for his menswear collection for Loewe. The British designer has always been known for his jovial lines, many of which have helped the Spanish designer brand attract more and more attention over the years. This season, Anderson did away with his elegant approach and went for the jugular—pink denim hotpants, oversized tunics, sheer tops, and sparkly pieces. These are the types of clothes you'll just want to put on and dance the entire night in!

Louis Vuitton

As one of Virgil Abloh's final collections before his passing, the fashion industry was sharply focused on Louis Vuitton's spring/summer 2022 menswear collection during Paris Fashion Week. What did this tragic fashion luminary leave the world? A celebration of Black culture and its continuing influence on the world. Fron funky suits to elevated sportswear, the entire menswear line was an homage to an entire race's impact on global pop culture. And though he probably didn't intend it to, it was a startling yet heartwarming bon voyage to one of the most important fashion designers of the 21st century.

Rick Owens

Set against the stunning backdrop of Lido di Venezia, the designer's hometown, there was something so ethereal about Rick Owens' spring/summer 2022 show. As the models—in tall platform heels, no less!—walked along the sandy shoreline, it evoked heavenly images of alien gods descending on the earth. Owens sent out a parade of other-worldly creatures, complete with long flowing silhouettes, exaggerated shoulders, and bright neutral tones. They practically didn't look human, yet at the same time, you couldn't help but be enamored by them. And want to look like them too!

Saint Laurent Paris

Another designer who presented his latest spring/summer 2022 collection in Venice was Anthony Vaccarello of Saint Laurent Paris. Though the grand city only served as a backdrop for his seasonal lookbook, it nevertheless set the scene for what his collection is all about—romance. Amidst the streamlined silhouettes and 70s-esque sleekness, there was a romantic grandeur that overtook the entire line. Especially with the brocade suits, ruffles, and even a floor-length cape. They were modern takes on classic Venezian glamour done in a way that only an haute couture house like Saint Laurent Paris can pull off!

VTMNTS

Take note! This brand is 'VTMNTS,' not Vetements. Although the former is under the latter, its founder and creative director, Guram Gvasali, made sure to separate his brand from the more famous streetwear behemoth. And it's pretty evident with his spring/summer 2022 menswear collection. While this VTMNTS does play on normcore just like Vetements, it takes on a less oversized and cartoonish approach. A simple tee and track pants are enough to amp up the sportiness without being too avant-garde about it.
