The Top Five Most Heartwarming Movies to Watch This Thanksgiving

November 15, 2021
2021-11-15
As with any other holiday, the most important event during Thanksgiving is dinner. This special American holiday, one of a handful that lets you spend time with your friends and family, is all about serving up a grand feast where everyone gathers around the dinner table and shares what they're thankful for. But be that as it may, that's not the only way to celebrate Thanksgiving. You can also do other things with your loved ones on Thanksgiving. A good example is to watch a movie together, the more heartwarming, the better! Here are a few good suggestions!

The Top Five Most Heartwarming Movies to Watch This Thanksgiving

Mary Poppins (1965)

In many ways, Thanksgiving is all about having a feel-good time with your friends and family. And when it comes to these sorts of things, you can always trust Disney and its many amazing films to come through. But special occasions like Thanksgiving calls for movies beyond the famous studio's animated classics. Something like the 1965 film 'Mary Poppins' might work best! The story of a magical English nanny raising and teaching two posh children in London to love, have fun, and be merry resonates with the American holiday's theme of being grateful for what and who you have now.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973)

If the little ones in the family insist on watching an animated movie for Thanksgiving, however, then there's none more appropriate than the 1973 classic, 'A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.' The movie features the titular Charlie Brown, his dog Snoopy, and all the cooky Peanuts the world knows and loves. After Peppermint Patty calls Charlie Brown to ask if she could spend Thanksgiving with him, it eventually results in all the Peanuts coming together and preparing a holiday feast. Of course, all sorts of troubles and hilarity ensue along the way. Nevertheless, at the end of the film, everyone shares what they're thankful for.

Addams Family Values (1993)

Now, you may be thinking that the 1993 hit film, 'Addams Family Values,' is more suited for Halloween than Thanksgiving. Although it's a family-friendly Halloween movie, it still fits the dark and gothic vibe of the October holiday. However, let's not forget that that 'Addams Family Values' isn't a horror film. Although it has its dark and macabre moments, it's still a feel-good flick about a family who, in more ways than one, is simply misunderstood. And at the end of the day, it's their 'family values' that save them. Won't such a familiar theme work well for Thanksgiving?

You've Got Mail (1998)

Thanksgiving screams autumn, from the food served at dinner to the cozy feeling of spending time with your loved ones. So in this regard, wouldn't the 1998 New York-set rom-com, “You’ve Got Mail,” featuring the feel-good screen couple of the 90s, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, work well for this holiday? Although it isn't exactly for the entire family, the romance isn't as 'adult' as other romantic movies. But of course, only those of a certain age can truly appreciate the heartwarming romance between Joe Fox (played by Tom Hanks) and Kathleen Kelly (played by Meg Ryan) a couple who hate each other in person but are actually falling in love online and they're not even aware of it!

Little Women (2019)

In many ways, film adaptations of the classic American novel, 'Little Women,' are often regarded as holiday movies. Despite what the March sisters go through, the way they triumph and remain a close-knit family still makes for a feel-good flick in the end. However, Greta Gerwig's 2019 adaptation starring Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, and Meryl Streep is a great film to stream this Thanksgiving. Why? Firstly, the more modern and feminist take fits the times. And secondly, just as already mentioned, the familial aspect of the story fits Thanksgiving down to a tee!

Having dinner and sharing what you're thankful for isn't the only way to celebrate Thanksgiving. Sometimes, watching a movie with everyone around, reveling in each other's company, is enough for this special holiday!

Luxury homes with a nice entertainment room would make streaming these heartwarming movies on Thanksgiving even more enjoyable!
