Copenhagen's Top Five Coffee Shops

November 02, 2021

Copenhagen and coffee. On the outset, both don't seem to have anything to do with each other. As far as cafe society is concerned, other major European cities like Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Barcelona, and the like are more well-known. But this doesn't, however, take away from the fact that the Danish capital has its fair share of exquisite coffee shops. It's not just that they serve delicious coffee, it's also that relaxing ambiance they provide, the delicious treats they offer to pair with your coffee, and more. If you want a pleasant cafe experience in Copenhagen, go to any of these five notable hotspots!

Copenhagen's Top Five Coffee Shops

Darcy’s Kaffe

Along the more serene Rantzausgade street in the Nørrebro neighborhood of Copenhagen, Darcy's Kaffe stands out with its Klein Blue exterior and gentle atmosphere. The postcard-pretty cafe invites you with its comfortable appeal, most especially the scent of coffee as it wafts across the air of the sunny street. Inside, founder Darcy Millar serves up a delectable menu of different roasts, coming from the likes of La Cabra, Koppi, and more. Overall this is the perfect place for a peaceful cup of coffee on a lazy afternoon. What more could you ask for?

Andersen & Maillard

Although Andersen & Maillard is among the newer cafes in Copenhagen, having opened just last 2018, it quickly became one of the coffee hotspots in the city. There are two major reasons why this coffee shop skyrocketed in popularity. Firstly, their signature roasts are arguably second to none. And coffee-lover would know that Andersen & Maillard's cups are no joke! Secondly, the cafe is also known for its delicious Danish pastries and other sweets. In fact, many of their daily customers go here just for the sweets. And you can't blame them too because they're just so good!

Copenhagen's Top Five Coffee Shops

Coffee Collective

Ever since they opened their first shop back in 2008, Coffee Collective has been a huge institution among Copenhagen's cafe society. Founders Klaus Thomsen, Peter Dupont, and Casper Rasmussen changed the coffee game in the Danish capital forever, offering up a new light and airy roast that many other coffee shops eventually adopted. Not to mention their sustainable approach to acquiring, roasting, and making coffee. Over time, Coffee Collective went on to open a few more branches throughout Copenhagen. And among their signature treated, their espresso soft serve is a must-try during summer!

Det Vide Hus

Although Det Vide Hus is a charming little cafe in Copenhagen, thanks to its location on the busy street of Gothersgade, it's pretty easy to get to via public transport. And thank goodness it is because you'll want to get here before the brunch and lunch crowds take over. Known for their cakes and coffee, Det Vide Hus is the kind of charming yet compact coffee shop where its humble size doesn't match its massive popularity. Both locals and tourists go here when they crave good coffee and delicious baked goods. That's all you really need to know about the place!

April

Finally, there's April. Although it's more known as a roastery, its own flagship store located in the Østerbro district has since become a go-to hotspot. And while it is a flagship store, there are a few tables here that also operate as its own in-house cafe. The sleek space reeks of modernity and sophistication, far from the nostalgic charms of the other shops on this list. But, of course, April's pièce de résistance will always be its fine selection of roasts. Some local and some from exotic countries, it's safe to say that you won't this sort of coffee goodness anywhere else in Copenhagen!
