Although Paris is the undisputed 'fashion capital of the world,' New York is undoubtedly one of, if not the most influential. It helps that the city, with all its glory, is among the most global metropolises in the world. Not to mention that there are a ton of movies set in New York, allowing for more of the city's fashion to influence global audiences. Over the years, there have been a few notable films set in New York known for their glamour and style. Among them, here are the top ten you've probably already seen.

The Top Ten Most Fashionable Movies Set in New York

The Women (1939)

Starring the likes of Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, and Rosalind Russel, the most glamorous stars of the early years of the 'Golden Age of Hollywood,' the 1939 comedy, 'The Women'' was a fashion movie before it ever became a thing! Unique for being a film that exclusively featured women, what they wore were as memorable as the quips and jabs their New York high society characters exchanged with each other. The costumes, made by the legendary designer, Adrian, defined 1930s exuberance, from the tailored day suits to the sparkling lamé evening gowns.

All About Eve (1950)

'Fasten your seatbelts! It's gonna be a bumpy night!' Name a more iconic movie line than that? And when Bette Davis' 'Margo Channing' uttered those words, didn't she look divine in her nipped-wasited silk evening gown? That was the sort of dramatic 1950s New York broadway glamour that 'All About Eve' has become famous for. Apart from the famous lines and the fantastic melodrama, the notable post-war fashions made the movie even more iconic. It definitely made the drama even more riveting, that's for sure!

Sabrina (1954)

Boat necklines, little black dresses, and haute couture gowns. These are just some of the beautiful fashions you'll see in the 1954 romantic comedy, 'Sabrina.' The beautiful Audrey Hepburn stars as Sabrina Fairchild, a typical modern-day (or at least modern in 1950s standards!) Cinderella who falls in love with the Larrabee brothers, the cream of the crop of New York high society that her chauffeur father works for. In this tangle of full skirts and tailored suits, love blossoms between a hardened businessman and the ugly duckling who's turned into a swan.

Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)

Speaking of Audrey Hepburn, her most famous role was definitely Holly Golightly, the flighty New York glamour girl who'd wear a Givenchy little black dress and eat breakfast right outside of the famous Fifth Avenue American jewelry store. Her many quirks and chic looks have become the blueprint for what it means to be a fashionable it-girl in New York city. And apart from the iconic opening dress, her bubblegum pink ensemble (with matching tiara), bright orange cocoon coat, and light grey cashmere sweater are definitely just as memorable too!

Annie Hall (1977)

When 'Annie Hall' premiered in 1977, Diane Keaton's quirky character defined how independent women dressed from that point on. For the first time since Marlene Dietrich in 'Blue Angel' in 1930, a female romantic lead became known for embracing menswear. Trading in the flouncy dresses to high-waisted trousers, casual waistcoats, and boxy jackets. It's no wonder the Woody Allen-directed romantic comedy, filmed in various neighborhoods in New York, became a hit and is still one of his most beloved works.

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)

Speaking of quirky fashions in film, Wes Anderson's 2001 cult classic, 'The Royal Tenenbaums,' is definitely one that has a lot of it. Who could ever forget how Gwyneth Platrow's 'Margot Tenenbaum' became the ultimate early 2000s style icon in Lacoste and Fendi? Even though she only wore French designer labels and Italian luxury brands throughout the film, she made it all look simple, classic, and easy to wear. It's no wonder her character became a go-to Halloween costume over the years.

Factory Girl (2006)

Edie Sedgwick was a 1960s New York city socialite who was arguably the most famous among Andy Warhol's superstars. With her adorable platinum blonde pixie cut, waif silhouette, and iconic dark-eyed beauty look, she was the perfect muse for the infamous pop artist. As well as the perfect protagonist for 'Factory Girl,' the 2006 film starring Sienna Miller as Sedgwick. Here, the movie reinvigorated the socialite's revolutionary style, complete with stripe sweaters, mini-dresses, and leather gogo boots to boot!

The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

If there ever was the quintessential 21st century fashion film, it'd be 'The Devil Wears Prada.' The talented Meryl Streep stars as Miranda Priestly, the infamously demanding and 'hell on heels' type of an editor-in-chief of a leading fashion magazine Anne Hathaway's 'Andy Saks' works as an assistant. As the former torments the latter through impossible errands and practically unethical working conditions, the truth behind the world of high fashion unravels, both in Saks and the audiences' eyes. However, not before the glamour of designer clothing that Priestly (Streep) and Saks (Hathaway) wear throughout the film makes all the hardships seem worth it!

Sex And The City: The Movie (2008)

When a 'Sex And The City' movie was announced, audiences were as excited for the fashions as they were with the return of New York's fab four. From Charlotte's dainty old-world glamour to Samantha's scintillating sexy styles, as well as Miranda’s independent womanly looks, fans were anticipating how the women will now dress on-screen. Of course, most of the excitement was fixated on Sarah Jessica Parker's 'Carrie Bradshaw,' arguably the most beloved TV style icon of all time. The way she mixes designer clothing with vintage pieces and even some high street brands have influenced women to dress just as boldly.

The Great Gatsby (2013)

Among all the movie and TV adaptations of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby,' the 2013 Baz Lurhmann film definitely wins as the most stylish! In fact, the clothes for this movie are so beautiful, costume designer Catherine Martin won the Oscar for Best Costume Design the following year. That's all thanks to Gatsby's (Leonardo DiCaprio) Brooks Brothers suits, Daisy's (Carey Mulligan) Miu Miu dresses, and the sparkling jewelry provided by none other than Tiffany & Co.! How's that for a glamorous film?
