Brussels is a surprising epicurean delight with a whole range of delicious restaurants that will suit any budget. From cheap eats to blow-the-budget, once-in-a-lifetime feasts, we’ve found all restaurants you need to visit when you’re in the Belgian capital.

Cheap eats

King Kong

Peruvian cuisine has been having a bit of a moment recently with Lima often sighted as one of the most exciting culinary destinations in the world. So any Peruvian restaurant is likely to be a hit. King Kong in Brussels is a plant-filled paradise in the centre of the city that serves a menu of simple but delicious Peruvian classics like ceviche and pork sandwiches.

Tonton Garby

This sandwich shop has a reputation which proceeds itself, hence the huge queues that snake around the corner on a daily basis. The owner Garby has a way with people and the service always comes with a smile, no matter what language you speak. The sandwiches are all cheese-based and are likely to be the best you’ll ever eat.

Peck 47

Just a stone’s throw away from the Grand Palace, Peck 47 is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast or brunch on a budget. They continue serving food throughout the day too so you never need to go hungry when you’re in the area. Try the homemade soup of the day or one of their egg dishes.

Keep on Toasting

OK so this isn’t technically a restaurant but we thought it was definitely worth a mention when it comes to cheap eats in Brussels. The food truck pops up in places all over the city dishing up some of the best toasted sandwiches we’ve ever tasted. Check their website to see where they’ll be heading next.

Knees To Chin

Since opening in 2014, Knees to Chin has been a huge hit on the Brussels restaurant scene. The cheap and cheerful menu consists mainly of the Vietnamese specialty of rice paper rolls made with creative fillings. The service is quick but always friendly making it the perfect place for a quick catch up.

Middle of the road prices

Samourai Ramen

For traditional ramen in Brussels, look no further than Samourai Ramen. The setting is bright and airy like all good Japanese restaurants and the menu features all kinds of ramen as well as gyoza and a few Japanese curries.

Mo-Mo

This little Tibetan restaurant in Brussels serves delicious steamed dumplings that will keep you coming back again and again. The dough is thicker and wheat based, unlike Chinese dumplings that you’ve probably eaten before. And by eating here you’re also supporting a very worthy cause – the woman working here are people who have escaped from Tibet, living as political refugees in Brussels. Food with a conscience.

Mamma Roma

Gorge on pizza by the slice at Mamma Roma at one of their branches in Brussels. You’ll find interesting toppings which you might not have tried before like smoked cheese and because you pay by weight you can just have a small bit to try it out. Their lunch deal comes with a drink and won’t set you back more than 10 EUR.

Nordzee - Mer Du Nord

Nordzee in Flemish and Mer Du Nord in French is a Brussels institution. Locals line up at the seafood bar to eat oysters, pickled herring and all sorts of seafood treats. There’s also seating in the restaurant next door so you can sit in and enjoy a seafood platter. Chaotic and loud, it’s hardly the place for a relaxing dinner but it’s just about the best seafood you’ll find in the country.

La Buvette

Although this restaurant is far from cheap, we’ve put it in this section because of the very well-priced lunchtime tasting menu that they offer on weekdays. An unpretentious player on the Brussels fine dining scene, it will impress everyone from a business partner to a date.

Blow the budget

Le Rabassier

This exclusive restaurant hosts a maximum of 18 diners per night making it a hot ticket in town. Open since 2014, over the past 5 years it has come to be a reference point for fine dining in the capital. The menu focuses on truffle, using it in imaginative and unexpected ways. The service is also impeccable and you’ll want for nothing while dining here. We’ve already named Le Rabassier one of the most romantic restaurants in Brussels and it’s also made this list because it truly is one the best restaurants in the city.

As of 2015 Bon Bon has been the proud owner of the coveted two Michelin stars, making it one of the most critically acclaimed restaurants in the capital. Comme Chez Soi

Located in an elegant Brussels town-house, this two Michelin star restaurant integrates a subtle mix of charm and character. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave you’ll be treated like royalty, making for a very special dining experience. Founded in 1926, the menu still features specialities that have held their own over four generations as well as more recent additions. Choose from dishes from land or sea and sit back and enjoy the ride.

Sea Grill

Another Brussels restaurant that has earned two Michelin stars, Sea Grill is, as the name suggests, the place to take lovers of seafood. The dining room features stylish artwork and separate areas for added intimacy. Choose from a tasting menu or go a la carte and curate your own experience. There is a particularly good wine list here. The price is high so we recommend saving this for special occasions – the perfect place for a celebratory dinner.
