Violet Cakes

Made famous around the world after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose this Hackney bakery to bake their wedding cake, it’s a stalwart on the East London dining scene and serves one of the best cupcakes in London. Try on of their organic creations, which come in flavours including vanilla strawberry, vanilla lemon and salted caramel as well as some seasonal specials.

The Hummingbird Bakery

Any cupcake shop which manages to expand to have six locations across the capital will make us sit up and take notice. Here the fluffy creations are served in an American-style shop which will allow you to indulge your inner Carrie Bradshaw. If you have any intolerances, don’t assume cupcakes are off the cards. At Hummingbird Bakery there are plenty go gluten free and vegan options.

Lola’s 

Lola’s has over a dozen shops and stalls spread across the capital so if you’re ever in need of an emergency cupcake (it happens to the best of us) then Lola’s will have your back. Find them in train stations, shopping centres and even in Topshop on Oxford Street. They serve single cupcakes as well as boxes if you’re feeling generous. To get a cupcake here you’ll have to fight your way through crowds of millennial eager to photograph the cutesy decor. But it’s worth it when you try the cupcakes. Pick indulgent treats like Oreo cookie and take a seat on one of the outside tables surrounded by perfectly pretty foliage.

This bakery started in Primrose Hill (which just happens to be the super stylish neighbourhood of Kate Moss) and has since expanded to have branches in Chelsea and Covent Garden. The airy interiors are inviting and they serve tea and coffee alongside their cakes. Discover flavours you never even imagined like early grey and bubblegum.

Lily Vanilli

A favourite among London’s most fashionable set, Lily Vanilli takes a very creative approach to cupcakes. You can forget the traditional flavours that you might find elsewhere and instead tuck in to more inventive treats. One of their cupcakes even features a rose flavoured fortune cookie on top.
